Catching Up... Our First Date 8/21/2014

Catching Up...Our First Date
As most who come across this blog are probably aware, yes, our first date was indeed to LAS VEGAS! Paul mentioned one day that he had a "Crazy Idea," that we should meet at the airport after work one day, have a drink and hop on a plane to Sin City. "After all, I did mention I was spontaneous right??" he said, my response was simply "Are you serious? Although as odd as it sounds, I am almost at a point with you to agree to this idea. Are we crazy?" A simple response from him of "Yes, I am serious. Yes, we are crazy. Yes, we are going." was all it took. Less than one week later, I found myself headed to IAH airport for 4 fun filled days with a man I hardly knew. As I walked in the airport and saw that handsome man sitting there, all I could say to him was, "Well, are you ready to do this or what?"

We have both been to Vegas on several different occasions but both agree this was by far our best trip. We were a little nervous about having 4 nights there but it worked out perfectly. On night one we arrived in the wee hours of the morning, checked into The Plaza hotel and hit up Fremont Street. A few hours of drinking and chatting behind us (no actually we did not get along perfectly from the get go! For a minute we thought one of us might end up stranded in the desert somewhere - blame it on our mutual stubborn demeanors) we found ourselves telling the first set of strangers that this was indeed our first date and that we truly had never seen each other face to face before meeting at the airport less than 8 hours ago. Naturally, they didn't believe us. The night ended with Paul deciding to play a joke on his family by sending them a picture of us under a "Welcome to Las Vegas" sign saying we were getting married!!!!

Day two started off with tired eyes and slight headaches as we literally watched the sun come up that morning. Thank goodness for ibuprofen and water the night before! (You're welcome, Paul 😉) This prompted us to take it easy and enjoy the day. Highlight of day two was our AMAZING lunch at Hash House inside The Plaza hotel. (Check out the picture of Paul's meal below!) We spent that night wandering the streets of Fremont, hanging out with street performers and singing and dancing to live music. (Okay, so I was the one dancing and singing to every song and Paul was just laughing at me and shaking his head!)

We started day three well rested and ready to go! We found a quaint little diner for breakfast, more accurately it found us, and then we decided to head to the strip! After a late lunch/early dinner at Hard Rock, we spent the rest of the evening wandering up and down the strip and walking in and out of the casinos: Hard Rock, Planet Hollywood, Paris, Ceasar's, The Bellagio, The Venetian. We were both dead set on riding the new HIGH ROLELER Ferris Wheel! It is a new Ferris Wheel in the middle of the strip that takes you 550ft in the air for an unreal view of the city - AMAZING at night!! The entire ride takes about 30 minutes and you are literally in a huge pod with about 10 other people (yes, you can drink in it!)

As with any trip to Vegas, we definitely encountered our fair share of unique people while wandering the strip! There was Brandon, the bartender at Ceasar's who said he had a strong feeling that Paul and I would be traveling back to Vegas together and he insisted we come back to find him; the random homeless man who stopped us on the street and decided to grab our hands and 'marry us' (we immediately went to wash our hands afterwards!); and Zoey, the bartender from Linq who bought us several drinks after telling Paul that he looked 32 and I looked 26 😊.

Our last night in Vegas was "date night." Being the "sweetheart" of a guy he is, Paul insisted on taking me on a "real first date." Which he described as a "nice dinner where I don't wear camo crocks or cuss to much." He called and made reservations at The Chart House inside the Golden Nugget, amazing seafood with an incredible 75,000 gallon tropical fish aquarium. After dinner he took me to the top of the Stratosphere (in all my trips to Vegas that is something I have NEVER done!). The view was truly breath taking. Best first date either of us have ever had by far :)
